José Masdevall Terrades Llobet, Figueras, approx. 1730. – Trujillo, 1801) studied medicine in Cervera and Montpellier and later became physician to Carlos III and Carlos IV. He was commissioned to investigate an outbrek of tertian fever in the area of Tarragona, Lérida and Solsona in Catalonia. This study, the result of his investigations, came out in three editions in two years. His therapeutic methods were highly praised and the work was translated into Italian, German and French.
