ORIGINAL DRAWINGS.

An advertising brochure, 8 pages stapled (staples rusty), 24.4 x 15.5cm., with a brief history of the firm, reproductions of two old prints, 6 drawings by Monro S. Orr and a double-page map of London, also by him. With proof corrections in pencil in the hand of John Wilson, then managing director of Bumpus. Together with 3 pieces of original art-work by Monro S. Orr each reproduced in the brochure:- 1. An original pen and ink on card (image:19 x 11cm. approx.), 'A Watchman of 1729', neatly marked in pencil for the printer. 2. Original pen and ink on card (image:22.5 x 18.3cm. approx.) 'The north end of the Court House - looking towards Oxford Street'. Two small brown smudges. 3. Original gouache in greys (image: 30x 22cm. approx.) [Bumpus's Oxford Street front], with pencil note to printer. A highly skilled drawing of the 1881 façade, peopled with London 'types' (a newspaper boy, sandwich man, city gent) and, entering the shop and looking directly at the viewer, a small bowler hatted figure: the then Prince of Wales (Edward VIII). Monro S. Orr, 1874-1955.
