Thomas Moore. A pencil and watercolour wash portrait of the Irish Romantic poet (1779-1852), as a young man, on card removed from an album.

Identified in pencil at foot, 'T. Moore Esq.' The head is most carefully painted and finished with varnish to give lustre to the face and part of the hair. The use of 'Esq' suggest that the portrait was painted during Moore's lifetime. We have not been able to determine whether this is an accomplished copy of a published engraving or an original imagined portrait (it is not painted from life).
