First Catalan translation of Near White (1932), (rather more surprisingly, it does appear that this and the Cok-Tail Negro Spanish translation of Home to Harlem are the only translations of Mackay's work that have been published in Spain or Latin America). This translation is published by one of the most interesting publishing companies of Civil War Barcelona. The director (and translator of this work) was the self-taught Josep Miracle who was to write biographies of many of the leading ÇCatalan cultural figures, Catalan grammars, etc. This collection, with its beautiful, avant-guard design, includes works (very often their first translation into any Hispanic language) by Katherine Mansfield, Eugene O'Neill, Leopardi, Hemingway, Gide, Huxley, Panit Istrati, Ivan Bunin, helping to introduce a truly international aspect to Catalan culture - in the middle of a civil war.
