Wrappers, in a single gathering, bound with string. Printed on kraft paper, but using a printing press, and decorated in the Vigía style, with various types of paper and torn and mounted illustrations; the cover illustrations are by Estévez, whilst those inside are reproduced from the first New York edition of 1882. This edition represents a curious hybrid between two worlds of book production: the print run (1,500 copies) and the technique (it is printed, not mimeographed) of Ediciones Matanzas, a mainstream provincial publisher, and the aesthetics and craftsmanship of Ediciones Vigía. The result is not entirely satisfactory, as, in applying Vigía’s intensely artisanal production methods to such a large print run, it is evident that the cover assembly was carried out in haste, leaving rather more glue stains than usual; aside from the editorial flaws, a fine copy. 5 copies in WorldCat.
