Vol. I: In this volume the back cover has been replaced; damp staining in the final leaves, which is reduced to a small stain in the upper margin of the last 20 leaves; this volume contains an additional lithograph with an autograph of Pius IX after page 216; slight rubbing to the spine, otherwise vg. Vol. II: The back cover has been replaced, the original gold stamped cloth has been conserved; damp staining in the upper margin of the last 9 leaves; small hole in the lower margin of the front cover and the first 9 leaves. Vol. III: Slight chafing on corners and edge of front cover, otherwise vg++. Vol. IV. The back cover has been replaced, the original gold stamped cloth has been conserved; the corners of the front covers have been reinforced; damp staining in the last 13 leaves; otherwise vgt+. We have tried to mention any defects of note, but although it has needed a certain amount of restauration, this is a very attractive copy of a beautiful and monumental work, on which the publisher has employed the finest printing techniques, excellent paper, beautiful binding and finishing, to reflect the glory of the Catholic Church in the 19th century.
